Overview

The Pennsylvania Nonprofit Organization provides support services for individuals with special needs in Eastern Pennsylvania.  They are a large non-profit organization with staff members operating in ten counties including Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Monroe, Chester, Delaware Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton and Schuylkill.  With over 200 staff members and 2 data centers, the organization found itself in a position with an internal IT department whose skill set was no longer in line with the scale of their operations.  After speaking with their cyber security consultant, it was recommended that they connect with SSI due to our extensive experience working with nonprofit organizations throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Industry:
Non-Profit
Services:
Server Support, Network Monitoring, IT Consulting

Challenge

The nonprofit organization had experienced exponential growth over the last few years with an increase in needs for human service programs.  Due to the exponential growth, the IT department expanded to include over 20 staff members.  Over time, certain areas of responsibility, primarily related to infrastructure, became increasingly challenging to manage with internal IT staff resources.  Certain members of the IT team had been working within this non-profit for over 15 years and never managed IT infrastructure besides the 2 data centers they ran internally.  SSI engineers manage multiple environments across many industries which enables them to become familiar with best of breed technologies and recognize situations where a client can benefit by implementing a technology they have seen work well for other organizations.

Solution

After meeting with SSI, it was apparent that the organization would benefit greatly by leveraging our team of IT technicians and engineers for specific IT infrastructure responsibilities.  Application development and support would still be managed by internal IT staff members while servers, storage and network would be the responsibility of SSI. By breaking out the IT responsibilities and mapping them to the resources with the proper skill sets, this organization was able to improve their IT efficiency and reduce overall costs of operations.

Results

SSI was able to take over several projects that were in-flight but not complete, including a backup and disaster recovery strategy and SD-WAN implementation.  By finishing up these projects, it freed up the time of internal IT staff members so they could focus on projects that were truly transformational to the business from an application development perspective.

Along with ongoing management of servers, storage and network, SSI is able to provide IT Consulting on an as needed basis for any projects outside the scope of our original agreement.
